How to Get to the Ravenna Gorge Christmas Market

Getting to the Ravenna Gorge Christmas Market can be a delightful part of your holiday adventure. The market is located near the town of Hinterzarten in the heart of the Black Forest, close to the famous Ravenna Viaduct. Here are some options for reaching the Ravenna Gorge Christmas Market:

By Car

If you're driving, the market is easily accessible from the B31 road, which connects Freiburg and Titisee-Neustadt. From the B31, take the exit for Hinterzarten and follow the signs for "Ravennaschlucht Weihnachtsmarkt" or "Höllentalbahn." There is a dedicated parking area near the market, but keep in mind that spaces may fill up quickly, especially on weekends. It's a good idea to arrive early to secure a parking spot. These spaces are reserved with tickets, so be sure to book VERY EARLY to receive a spot. The available parking spots for the entire season are often reserved as soon as tickets become available.

A second option is to drive to Hinterzarten and park. From here, you can hop on the free shuttle bus that runs directly to the market. This has been our preferred method, especially when taking kids.

By Train

The Höllentalbahn railway line connects Freiburg with Hinterzarten, offering a convenient and scenic way to reach the market. From Freiburg, take the regional train (Breisgau S-Bahn) towards Seebrugg or Titisee, and get off at the Hinterzarten station. The journey takes approximately 30-40 minutes. From Hinterzarten station, you can take the free shuttle bus service that operates during the market hours. It’s located just outside of the train station and easy to find. Otherwise, it's about a 30-minute walk to the market. We recommend the bus.

Shuttle bus service

During the Christmas market season, a shuttle bus service operates between Hinterzarten train station and the Ravenna Gorge Christmas Market. This service is particularly convenient if you don't want to walk from the train station to the market or if you're traveling with children or have mobility issues. Be sure to check the shuttle bus schedule before planning your visit, as the service may not run continuously throughout the day.
